As you might have seen, we’ve released episode #03 a whopping two weeks ago without any mention here. Plus, no questions in the comments got answered during that time. Why?

One part of the reason is that this group has basically fallen apart. Perhaps you’ve seen it in the sidebar, but Bynoe, the sole reason why this group exists, has left us without any notice. Some time later, Kris, who offered to TLC the scripts for Seizon2, has also had to pick up a second and third job and leave us. Finally, I dedicated myself to studying for exams for a while instead of fighting a losing battle. tl;dr: no work got done, blame Ianu.

Work will get done though. We will:

• follow through with Seizon2
• release E7AO23+24 (after finding a replacement TL)
• release the remainder of the Sukinayo episodes
• go back and fix each and every release for the batch
• release batches and patches for every show

You can expect more frequent releases soonish. (Seizon2 Ep04 is basically done already.)

We will also:

• disband as soon as we’re done with all of the above.

That was the right thing to do. I know that you’ve been one of the guys who sticked with us from the beginning, so it especially pains me that we’ve disappointed you. Sorry.

Working on this show is anything but smooth as you’ve noticed. I apologize for the heavy delays. I hope we can fix this at one point.

As of this episode, we have changed our editing policy on <kaichou> (which was previously outlined here). I realized that it may have been too soon to consider the word prominent enough to leave it as is even within this show and opted for the <president> instead. This is less consistent with the use of honorifics in the rest of the script, but I guess it can’t be helped. We will fix this accordingly for the batch.

I’m responsible for this mistake as I am for any other mistake in the script. Sorry. This week’s extra thanks go out to Chrouya for his last touches to the translation of this episode’s ED.

First of all:

We have not dropped Eureka Seven AO.

We have not dropped Suki-tte Ii na yo.

That is, at least according to my present knowledge, we have not dropped either show. Our boss and translator Bynoe has been having a really, really rough time at his job for a while now, two months and counting, and we other guys on the ~ side of things currently don’t hear much from him. I’m positive, though, that we will finish all that we’ve started, I just cannot tell when. I’m sorry; if it helps, I can assure you I feel really bad about the situation.

Now, what is this? To keep the machine running even in the absence of Bynoe, we’ll be doing a joint release of the second season of Seitokai no Ichizon together with the splendid Asenshi people. Lots of thanks also go out to our new TLC Kris who joined us recently along with Zoss; Kris will be checking and correcting the Crunchyroll script for us. This episode features a makeshift OP karaoke for a makeshift OP – next week’s proper OP will also have nicely styled karaoke from us.

The script had some tricky lines, so we tried to pick the least worst option (in the spirit of the ~) when we made our decisions. The most notable one would be not directly translating “kaichou”, Kurimu’s position as the president of the student council. The reason for that is that it’s the least worst alternative, really – “President-san” is wishy-washy, just “President” inconsistent with the script’s use of honorifics, “Prez” not really adequate for the tone and replacing it with her name means dropping considerable semantic information. I realize some people would prefer a different solution, but this will be our convention for this show. It’s not like it’s hard to learn anyway, in case you didn’t know what it means.

The day after Bynoe came back and picked up his TL work again, another crucial member, Yuyu, left the group for good. (Would have been nice to know that, though.) We’re thankful for what he’s done for the ~, which has been a lot, but it looks like it’s time to move on. The exquisite furzi from Asenshi has graciously offered us his help for the remainder of this season, so you can go and thank him for his support.

On that note: I’ll go and admit that I was somewhat puzzled by you guys – no idea how and why we deserve your support. We’ve been terribly unreliable lately and made some stupid mistakes on top; I know that I‘d have dropped any unknown group showing the signs we’ve shown and never looked back. Guess that makes you better people than I am.

Oh, and of course, we are extremely grateful for your comments, and extremely sorry for what has happened. I hope that we’re finally getting back on track now, maybe even with another release this weekend, though it still could take us a little while until we get back into the groove. E7AO 23+24 are up next, followed by the rest of Sukinayo and one winter season show.

Okay everyone, Bynoe here, back from the dead!

First off I have to offer my humble apologies to everyone who’s been patiently waiting for us and everyone on my wonderful staff who are all much more than I deserve (miraculously I don’t think any of them have abandoned the group so that’s a relief). Yes, I went AWOL for about a week… not without reason, but it still wasn’t justifiable and at this point I can only ask for your forgiveness… gomen.

I feel like I owe you all an explanation but I’ll spare you the boring ins and outs of my personal life and give you the short version: basically that whole real life thingy has been kicking my ass a bit of late, and big changes at work have been eating up all my time and draining me of any motivation or energy, and those are three resources fansubbing requires in spades…

Now for the important part, the status of our pending releases:
Sukinayo 08 is now mostly complete and will hopefully be ready for release shortly.
Sukinayo 09 just recently aired so there’s still quite a bit of work to be done on it but it’s not a difficult show so hopefully it shouldn’t be too long.
E7AO 23-24 is still quite a ways off I’m afraid. It’s a rather more difficult show to translate and honestly I’m not even half way done yet. I will try my best to make time for it, but my sitaution being what it is, right now for the most part I only have an hour or so a day I can put into it. Best I can say is hopefully it won’t be too much longer.

As for future releases, we will still try to get them to you as fast as we can, but “as fast as we can” may come to mean 2-3 days rather than our previous tentative 24 hour release schedule (which we rarely managed to keep to anyway =P)

Anyways, again, I’m sorry.

Some of you are (still) waiting for one of our releases, Eureka Seven AO 23&24 and/or Sukinayo 08, and I’m waiting with you. One of our key members  has gone AWOL and we can’t get any work done without him. I hate to say this, but I simply don’t know when we’re going to have these episodes out. Guess there’s no reason at all to wait for us at this point; I certainly wouldn’t.

We’ll keep you updated once things look up again.

Back to our usual all-things-that-can-go-wrong-do-go-wrong everyday life. Sigh. The initial seeding will be slow, and the 480p release might take one more day. It’s getting boring to apologize all the time… but yeah, sorry. Really.

So, tomorrow is Aoday. Despite graveyard shifts at work and being busy with uni, we are going to try and get the episodes done as soon as we can – though double the runtime will more likely than not mean double the turnaround time, too. Let’s see if we can make this work out.

In this episode, Megu-chwan enters the fray; we had her erronously down as Meru-tan in episode one, mengo mengo for that.

Time to talk about music! It’s one of the best things about Sukinayo in my opinion; strings can go terribly wrong and make a story feel sappy and cheesy, but they’re as nicely subdued in this show as are the colors and the direction. Looking forward to the soundtrack release. The composer, Yuuji Nomi, also did the score for Whisper of the Heart which is in the top three of my Ghibli favorites, so mad props for that as well. That guy really needs to do more anime stuff.
