Suki-tte Ii na yo 04

As you’ve probably noticed, there is now a simulcast available for Sukinayo. We’re a bit bummed out about the situation: our modus operandi is delivering releases based on original translations of anime that are not getting simulcasted, and we’ve been happy with seemingly having found a show that allowed us to do so this season.

Doing original translations for shows being simulcasted is hardly economical, though. After some deliberation and checking out the CR script, we’ve decided to use the simulcast script as our base script for now. We expect that this will reduce our turnaround time to a degree (being late as usual this weekend had other reasons, though).

The CR translation is not exactly accurate, so there’s more than enough work for us on this end. We will be checking and editing the script, adding some nice typesetting and our karaoke to the release, and muxing everything with fresh encodes.

It’s up to you whether you think the wait will be worth it; we hope it will be. Hopefully, this will at least free up some time for our other projects.

P.S.: As mentioned before, we will be late approximately one day for next episode. You can expect our release of episode 5 at ~9pm UTC Monday next week.

E7AO finale scheduled

According to the official page of Eureka Seven AO, the show’s double episode finale will be aired on TBS on November 19. The middle of the week is a bit tricky for us, and so will be the double length, but we’ll try to sub this reasonably fast.

Suki-tte Ii na yo 03

This weekend was a bit hectic/stressful for us, so we didn’t quite manage to release within the 24h timeframe we’ve set for ourselves. Apart from episode 5 (when we’ll probably have to release about one day later than usual), the rest should be going a bit more smoothly.

Still, sorry to everybody who decided to go with our release, we’ve kept you waiting.

Edit: We have just released a v2 of the episode because we’ve spotted a single bad, bad typo that made its way past the QC (literally snuck in after we QCed the episode); stuff like that gives me ulcers, and rather than bleeding to death over night I’d release a v2. In any case, sorry for the inconvenience.

You can find a patch at the link below or re-download and help seed the episode if you’d like. If you choose the patch, extract the contents to the same folder as the initial download, run patch.bat and enjoy having a typo-free v2 on your HDD. If you’re one of the few who got the release from our bot, please remove the underscores from the file name first.

Suki-tte Ii na yo 02

Thank you for the warm reception of our first episode of Sukinayo. We hope we can keep up with your expectations!

Even more so than the first episode, the second one really shows the talents of director and script writer Takuya Satou, a veteran 1990s storyboarder. His style is neither flashy nor spectacular so he’s not exactly a household name, but he knows his craft and uses it for the best of any given show he’s working on. Sukinayo is another neat example; note how Satou elegantly rearranges the manga’s plot to bring out its essence. Good guy, Ianu approves.

Another thing of note is this very subdued sense of nostalgia that’s tinging the show, most noticeable maybe in the new OP. I’m not saying it’s a quasi-early 2000s show (because it isn’t, really), but hearing Ritsuko Okazaki again is a nice nod. Okazaki wrote this song for Love Hina back then; she died in 2004. Time sure flies.

PS. Sorry this ended up being later than expected; we spotted a problem and ended up having to re-encode after the script was finished… we’ll try to do better next week. Promise.

Suki-tte Ii na yo 01

Alright, it’s a new season so it’s time for us to pick up a new show! After what was a much more grueling selection process than it should’ve been, we’ve finally settled on this nice little shoujo number. It’s a bit of a change of pace from AO, but a nice one for us, and we hope it will be for you too!

PS. We’ll be shooting for our usual 24 hour target release window from next week so if all goes to plan, you should see us release the next episode at some point on Sunday.

Eureka Seven AO: Jungfrau no Hanabana-tachi

This OVA is part of a bundle with a PS3 game for Eureka Seven AO which hit Japanese stores in late September. It takes place at some point between episodes #7 and #12 and doesn’t really add anything substantial to the story – it’s a silly, slightly fanservice-y bonus episode, and a nice promo video for Switzerland. Visit beautiful Switzerland!

There’s a bunch of cultural and local references in this OVA that need some explaining; we’ve decided against cramming countless TL notes into the episode, so enjoy this bonus content here after you’ve watched the episode (since it’s got a couple of spoilers).

OVA release tomorrow

Hello people,

just a short heads-up since I said we would be done today and now I have to eat my words. We are almost completely done with the script and TS, but since our distro is currently unavailable (and he prepared some delicious 1080p FLAC encode next to our usual offers), we’ ll use the extra day (night) to brush it up as much as possible; it’s a tricky episode…

In any case, sorry. You’ll hear from us tomorrow alongside some other news.

Eureka Seven AO 22

As you’ve probably already heard, the last two episodes of E7AO will be aired sometime in November. We will sub them of course. As for the OVA: yes, we are going to sub that as well, next week this time at the latest but possibly somewhat earlier.

We are going to pick up one new show for the upcoming season. Our list has been getting shorter and shorter with time so we’ve picked 2-3 viable candidates now and see how things will work out.

Many thanks go out to our new typesetter and all-around good guy drayn! All we really need now to deliver even less worse subs in future would be a TLC and some QC staff… hint hint.

This week’s bonus content is a no-brainer, thanks to E.:” Galaxy 2 Galaxy” is a 1993 follow-up to “World 2 World”.

Eureka Seven AO 21

As you will notice, this episode featured quite a number of signs that went without typesetting. We checked if they are vital to the understanding of the show, and luckily, none of them were; mostly flourish. The two that were kinda sorta good to know received typesetting of course.

The lack of a dedicated and competent typesetter is still our heaviest crux. This is by no means an optimal solution, and even (and especially) flourish can sometimes add greatly to a show. Plus, we do want to stick around and we do want to make our releases as good as we can, but our capabilities in this area are limited despite our efforts. So, to repeat myself: If you’re a cool guy or gal and have a halfway decent grasp of typesetting (both criteria should be met!), we’d be happy to have you join our team!

I’ll add bonus content should I actually hunt it down – doesn’t look like this is a song/record reference, though? Is this a first for the series?

E. to the rescue again! Of course, the title refers to a 1992 12″ from legendary Detroit techno pioneers Underground Resistance: “World 2 World”, not “World to World”. My bad. This will be changed accordingly for the batch, and of course, the next episode’s title will be adjusted to the correct “Galaxy 2 Galaxy“, a quasi-sequel by UR founder Mad Mike Banks.

Eureka Seven AO 20

Various things happened that led to me editing and timing this episode on a potato and Bynoe dying of sepsis since he cut his toe in half while fansubbing. He came back from the dead to bring you the least worst fansubs so that is pretty cool; I’m still stuck with my potato, though. Fuck.

Again, there’s a whole lot of songs by the name of this episode. Since I don’t want it to be sleep-inducing muzak or terrible dad rock, I’m picking a 1989 track by French post-punk coldwave darlings Asylum Party. More than enough pathos at least.
